Regarding Critiques :: Your Stories :: & :: Reviewing
.) When posting a story please state what kind of review you want. Do you just want comments that are encouraging? A brutal critique that'll rip your work to itty-bitty shreds or just someone to look for punctuation because you can't handle that too well? Be specific, failing to do so will result in general comments.
.) When giving comments keep your post relevant to the person's story. Be encouraging because if you have nothing nice to say you shouldn't say it at all. A minimum of fifty words should get across what you liked, disliked or hope to see in the near future.
.) Any form of copyright infringement without the author's and or publisher's approval will result in an immediate ban. We will not tolerate it whatsoever! In other words any proof that the work you posted was not yours and you did not get authorized consent will, in consequence, cause you to be banned.
.) Keep your posts as grammatically correct as possible. Please spell whole words and not just ne1 here? Or u r kool etc. Write so people can understand you. Although you may misspell somethings you will not be penalized. Just try to keep your post understandable.
.) To keep the board active and ensure everyone is getting reviews, for every one piece of work you post you are obliged to review one piece of work back. This means if you post a story I better see that you've acknowledged someone else's. Same with poetry. And speaking of poetry; the first three letters to the Poetry Board is nut
.) If your story has mature content in it put a rating. [R] [Gore] [Profanity] [Language] [PG-13] etc. Some members don't like reading certain levels of mature content because of religious reasons, general morals or they just dislike it in general. Giving a warning is only fair to them.
.) When giving feedback keep in mind who you are talking to. If you're talking to an experienced writer you can be harsher to them because they're used to the constructive criticism, whereas if you're talking to a thirteen year old who just began writing, they're not tough enough to take the blows and hear that their writing is terrible. You should be able to point out their flaws without being a jerk. Here is the first three letters of the story boards -- all and any -- is pea.
A.) When giving feedback do your absolute best to end on a positive note. If you can't then be professional and do not state bias opinions just the facts about their story and where it needs help. Stay in the neutral zone.
.) I notice sometimes people have attitudes when they critique, this will not be tolerated; there is no excuse for it. If the story stresses you stop before you start becoming a jerk. I understand sometimes you can't help but snap out at something every now and again but if it's every critique or review you'll be having a firm talking to. Now then, the last three letters of the Poetry Board is, tty
.) Please be polite to the other members. If you do not plan, or are skeptical, on whether or not to continue with a story, instead of making us critique the entire thing, tell us you just want comments on the plot-line. We spend a lot of time on critiques and to know that the story is going to be trashed makes us feel used. So if you don't have big plans for it then please don't claim you want a brutal critique.
.) Do not defend your work. If someone says they didn't understand it, don't try to explain it to them in a way that makes them look like an idiot because they're not the idiot, you are. A simple 'Oops this is what I meant; I'll fix it and make it clearer' is okay if you fell the need to tell them anything. Remember that you're asking them for help and you should always be grateful they spent their time on it, even if they don't give you what you want. Always thank your critic, and if there are any comments you're going to disregard don't tell them, just say 'You helped me out a lot; I appreciate it' and be sincere. Now that you've read all the rules, I'll give you the last four letters of the story boards -- nuts
